To the Editorial Team: Last week, Trump emailed me, along with millions of other American seniors, about our one-time $90 Medicare Part B reimbursement. I’ve since donated my windfall to a worthy Democratic candidate.

Trump appeared in my inbox again today. This time, his message was delivered courtesy of the Social Security Administration with the head-scratching subject line: “Giving America’s Children a Stake in the American Dream.”

Like the previous email, the content was all about Trump. Though it led with his “historic” tax cut for seniors (with no mention of this being a temporary deduction, or that the lowest-income retirees and many seniors will receive little to no benefit, or that his tax giveaway will reduce federal revenue by $90 billion across four years), it reads like an advertisement for all things Trump.

But what was truly disorienting — this was, after all, an email targeting seniors — is that the majority of the content promotes Trump Accounts for children (only for those born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028). Trump lauds these accounts as “one of the most significant investments in the next generation of Americans in our nation’s history…”

Trump’s “investment” in our children’s futures has so far cost the American taxpayers $1.3 billion. Even at the highest rate of return, by the time these kiddos are ready to go to college, the initial $1,000 deposit will be worth only $5,560. Barely enough for one semester at a public university — in 2026. So, what is the Donald really giving our children? A future burdened by more national debt.
