To the Editorial Team: In early October, the Ulster County Legislature Housing and Transportation Committee will debate and decide whether there will be a two-mile extension of the Catskill Mountain Railroad (CMRR) to the existing Ashokan Trail. They will decide on one of three options. 1) Rail plus trail; 2) Rail only; or 3) Trail only. All three options were deemed feasible in a recent engineering study sponsored by the county. Please encourage the following seven committee members to vote for option #1 above, since this is a win-win option. It will bring Ulster County the most revenue due to the exciting Basin Road Train Station and Shuttle Bus to Woodstock plans. Also, CMRR personnel will do much of the work on the two-mile extension, thus reducing the project expense. Please call or email the following legislators asking them to vote for Option #1 – Rail plus Trail.
