For anyone looking for a queer-centric mid-week reprieve from their daily travails, coming to Salt Box on Crown Street in Kingston is a weekly pop-up event called C. U. Next Tuesday.

Organized by Queer Kingston, run by Jess Edelman, this pop-up is an opportunity for queer-owned businesses to share a piece of their craft with Kingston folk and enjoy a refreshing beverage at Salt Box to wind down on Tuesday evenings.

This pop-up event began last year has a full schedule during pride month to commemorate the queer-forward concept of the event and help promote local businesses along the way. Kingston Wire spoke to Max Glausen, owner of First Capital Poke Bar at 310 Wall St., who will be vending at the event on Tuesday, June 4. For the month of June, the pop-up will include The Meat Wagon and a Queer Open Mic on June 11, Que Lo Que and a Queer DJ Night on June 18, and Yeah Dawg!! on June 25. More information is available on the Queer Kingston Instagram page.

“We have exclusive items for the pop-up, including a chicken teriyaki bento box with white rice, potato or macaroni salad, or wakame salad,” Glausen said. “The other is a Hawaiian poke bento done in the traditional Hawaiian style, with fish cut into large pieces mixed with limu sauce, seaweed and scallions, served with rice with furikake and comes with potato or macaroni salad. We’ll also have chicken katsu sandwiches, which is a Japanese milk bread with shaved cabbage, tonkatsu sauce and a fried chicken breast cutlet.”

Each vendor will curate a special menu for the pop-up, which can be found on each of their social media pages. For now, head over to 10 Crown St. in Kingston every Tuesday at 6 p.m. to enjoy these local flavors, from now until the early fall.
