Susan Roscoe, 63, has lived in Kingston since 1978. For the past 24 years she has worked at Sunshine Tees, where she’s embroidery manager. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Kingston Wire: How did you or your family come to Kingston?

Susan Roscoe: I had relatives that lived here and I came down in ‘78 to be with them. At the time, my aunt owned [The Hummel House boarding house] and I came here to work for her.

KW: What do you like about Kingston?

SR: The people — I have a lot of good friends here and I thought about moving a few times, but I didn’t want to leave my friends and my job, which I really love. Basically, that’s why I’m here, for the people. I’m also involved in softball during the summer down at Block Park so that’s something I like to do here.

KW: What would you like to change about Kingston?

SR: The crime. Just all of the murders that we had here recently and stuff like that. That’s really the only thing I would change. I don’t have too much of a problem with the crime rate myself, but I don’t like it. Just too much stuff going on.

KW: What do you think Kingston is going to be like in 10 years?

SR: Hopefully for the better. Hopefully kids will have more respect for the adults and everyone gets along fine. I’d like to see more businesses opening up instead of all these empty storefronts. In terms of business, I’d like to see things pick up.
