Lovers of dance rejoice, in the Arts Society of Kingston’s “Choreography on the Edge” dance performances, taking place this weekend.

ASK welcomes 2023 with inspiring body movements by professional choreographers and dancers — both local and regional, as they experiment and push their boundaries. A release for the event noted that “the program this year promises to stretch the audience’s envelope as well.”

The eclectic lineup comprises choreographers and dancers spanning a wide range of styles and techniques, primarily modern dance, contemporary ballet, and cultural motifs.

Set to perform are Laura Ward’s Octavia Cup Dance Theatre in collaboration with Oceans All Over from the UK, Anna Librata from the Hudson Valley Flamenco Festival (Sunday only), and Joelle Van Sickle back after a 3-year hiatus.

Local to the Hudson Valley, choreographers Arianna Noble with Bella O’Connell, Gabrielle Gregory, and Sharon Penz will return with new pieces. New this year is Olivia Idella Martin from Massachusetts. And returning this year are Sara Senecal, Laura Teeter, and Haley Kwak.

This innovative program has continued since 1990, and this year the curtain will go up Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 both at 8pm, and on Sunday, January 29 at 3pm, at 97 Broadway.
