In light of the barrage of complaints, investigations, and lawsuits filed against Central Hudson, the Ulster County government has published a series of steps consumers can take to report any billing problems they may have experienced.

The county suggests consumers take the following actions (see the above slide show for more details):

Contact Central Hudson and see if you can get your issue resolved.
Visit the state investigative authority (Department of Public Service) website and file a complaint.
Add comments to the existing countywide complaint with the State's Department of Public Service.
Contact Senator Michelle Hinchey's office if your electricity is in imminent danger of shut off or already shut off.
Update an existing complaint and request case status through the DPS website.
Contact the Ulster County Executive for help with logging complaints.

Earlier this week, Senator Hinchey and Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger released statements criticizing Central Hudson, and urged consumers to take action. One of the complaints that Metzger directs consumers to comment on, listed as “Matter Number 22-00666” and involves the various billing issues, currently has over 4,000 public comments.

Customers commented on not receiving bills for months and then getting hit with bills well over $700. Others note that, despite being on payment plans, they still get those same high bills, some totaling in the thousands. And other customers reported having requested bills without receiving any response from the company.
